All About Asthma

Defined as a chronic disease of the airways, asthma is on the rise in our nation. It’s the leading chronic condition for kids in the United States today and the third leading cause of hospitalization for children under the age of 15. Most of these kids with severe attacks spend about 3.5 days in the hospital. Since the 1980s, asthma rates have increased by 60%. That breaks down to about three children per classroom!

Common Symptoms

Asthma is a chronic lung condition that inflames and narrows airways. Typical symptoms include

  • Breathing difficulties
  • Wheezing
  • Coughing
  • Severe tightness in the chest

The Medical Model’s Approach to Asthma

The current conventional treatment for asthma includes inhalers and steroids, which we believe our cover-ups. Parents are also often told by doctors that their kids will outgrow it. We think there’s a better way. That’s why we are passionate about helping parents through our upcoming Asthma workshop:

Date: March 13, 2018
Time: 5:30 PM
Location: 3824 Masthead st NE Albuquerque NM 87109
The Role of Chiropractic

We will look at asthma from two perspectives: a biomechanical and neuro-immune perspective.

Biomechanical

If the lungs aren’t opening up is something going on with the ribcage itself? A lot of time we find there are several subluxations in that thoracic spine that stop us from being able to open up those pathways because the ribs are closing down on it.

Neuro-immune

We’ll also discuss drainage—what’s causing the clogging? What’s causing the restriction? In many cases, that’s neurological and upper cervical, relating to the top of the neck again. That leads to other problems. Kids with asthma often have a history of ear infections, allergies, sinus issues and asthma attacks later on. It’s that cascading effect.

The Importance of Addressing Asthma Early

If we don’t take care of an issue early on in life, it can become more difficult to manage. Chiropractic can help drastically reduce the need for inhalers and steroids, which can cause problems. Chiropractic also can help adults with asthma as well as chronic respiratory and COPD issues.

Call ABQ Family Chiropractic today to register to attend the workshop. Space is limited.
